Man Accused Of Violent Crimes After Protecting Stepsister

An altercation in a mobile home park in Michigan recently led to the death of a 43-year-old man. A 27-year-old man is now facing an aggravated assault charge, and it was reported that the charges may be enhanced following the victim's death. Violent crimes are not always premeditated, and could occur in cases in which arguments get out of control. It is also not uncommon for individuals to resort to violence while they are trying to protect family members.

Police records indicate that a 17-year-old woman offered a ride to a heavily intoxicated man. She alleges he touched her inappropriately, and requested sex, which she refused. She reportedly decided not to report the incident, but the man returned to her home the following day; apparently, he was drunk again. When he refused to leave, he was apparently punched and knocked down by the woman's stepbrother. Deputies arrived at the scene, and they report that the punched man declined pressing charges.

However, 911 reportedly later received a call reporting that the man was having problems breathing. He was rushed to a hospital and was put on life support, but succumbed to his injuries and he was later declared dead. The woman's stepbrother was arrested and booked into the county jail.

Michigan residents who are accused of violent crimes such as assault and battery may be concerned about the implications of a potential conviction. They will likely benefit from retaining the services of an experienced criminal defense attorney. The consequences of a conviction can be harsh, and a lawyer can work to protect a client's rights while focused on achieving a favorable result.
