Mariko Willis

Mariko Willis is a law clerk at Willis Law. She also serves on the Board of Directors and as the Chief Operations Officer for the Willis Foundation. She is currently a Staff Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps Reserves. Mariko received her undergrad B.S., majoring in Business Management and then graduated cum laude with a Juris Doctor degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School.

Following in the footsteps of her brother, Christopher, Mariko joined the United States Marine Corps in 2003. In boot camp, she held the billet as Guide, and completed her training as a 1st Squad leader. She attended MCT in North Carolina and received Meritorious Mast for being in the top 5% of Marines while in combat training, and then completed her occupational specialty training in North Carolina. In 2004, Mariko was assigned to Engineer Support Company, 6th Engineer Support Battalion in Battle Creek, MI (the same unit that Christopher served with).

Mariko served 8 honorable years with Engineer Support Company. In addition to her primary military occupational specialty as a Hygiene Equipment Operator, she also attended the Career Retention Specialist School at MCRD, San Diego, CA, and served two years as the Career Retention Specialist for Engineer Support Company, 6th Engineer Support Battalion, 4th MLG. Mariko was deployed in 2007, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, serving with 8th Provisional Security Company, Command Joint Task Force-HOA in Djibouti, Africa.

Mariko was honorably discharged in 2011; however, decided to reenlist in the Marine Corps Reserves in 2014 and again in 2017. She currently remains serving with Engineer Support Company and intends to continue her military service in hopes of reaching her 20-year mark.

Mariko is a member of the Kalamazoo Rod and Gun Club, Ducks Unlimited, the National Rifle Association, and the Kalamazoo Detachment of the Marine Corps League.

Mariko’s pride and joy is her son, Tyson (aka “Nugget”). Her hobbies include fishing, hunting, softball leagues, playing the guitar, reading, and spending time with her family.
