Speed And Traffic Fatalities

When a vehicle is traveling at a high speed, mistakes by its driver can have fatal consequences.

A recent study looked at road speed and traffic fatalities. The study was by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

In the past couple of decades, many states have increased the speed limits on their roads. This study looked at data regarding 41 states to make estimates on what impacts speed limit increases that occurred between 1993 and 2013 had on traffic fatality levels. The study found increased speed limits to be associated with increased fatality likelihoods (particularly on freeways and interstates) and estimated that the limit increases in this two-decade period resulted in around 33,000 deaths.

What speed limit laws do you think Michigan should have when it comes to its roads?

One of the things studies like the above-mentioned one underscore is that special safety concerns can arise when it comes to higher vehicle speeds.

These special safety concerns are among the reasons why it is very important for drivers here in Michigan to not exceed the posted speed limit when driving and to exercise particular care to be responsible and attentive behind the wheel when driving on a road that has a relatively high posted speed limit.

When a high-speed collision or other type of accident claims the life of a loved one, it can affect a family on many different levels. So, there are a variety of needs a family may have in such a situation, including special legal needs. Wrongful death lawyers can help families with the particular legal issues fatal traffic accidents can raise.
